Family of Afghan boy who wore home-made 'Messi' teeshirt flee country after threats

Murtaza's father, Arif, told The Daily Telegraph: "When Murtaza become world famous I received threats from different groups including terrorists, criminals and warlords. I fear he could be kidnapped for ransom so for his safety we have moved to Pakistan."

The family of an Afghan boy who shot to worldwide fame after being photographed wearing a home-made Lionel Messi shirt has fled the country after receiving death threats.
Five-year-old Murtaza Ahmadi became an internet sensation after images were posted online of him wearing a blue striped plastic bag that had been made to look like an Argentina shirt.
The name of Messi, who plays as a forward for FC Barcelona, was scrawled across it in marker pen.
But four months after the pictures went viral - prompting talk of a meeting between Murtaza and his hero - the boy's family say their fame has put them in danger in their home in central Afghanistan's Ghazni province.
They have now fled to the city of Quetta in neighbouring Pakistan, where they are staying with relatives.
