X-Men: Apocalypse will
be the last time Jennifer Lawrence plays the blue-tinged, femme fatale,
Mystique, in the superhero franchise. For her last press stint at London’s
BFI Imax, the star chose a showstopping dress fit for her final hurrah.
Lawrence, 25, greeted
London’s grey skies (so long heatwave!) in a pale silver satin dress with
keyhole neckline and cut-out side panels. The daring gown fastened in a
halterneck style before criss-crossing down her back, and revealing silver
platforms through a bold hem slit. A fire engine red lip and tousled waves
finished the ensemble, which was likened to the signature style of Marilyn
Monroe on Twitter.
Her decision to wear Dior was
a predictable one, as the star has been a brand ambassador since 2012. A stroke
of genius from former creative director Raf Simons, Lawrence was signed up just
before she hit the big time thanks to her roles in The
Hunger Games and Silver
Linings Playbook. She has worn Dior almost exclusively for every
high-profile event since her contract was signed.
The Kentucky native has previously spoken out about her concern of wearing figure-hugging
dresses in the spotlight. At the 2016 Golden Globes she had a “plan-B
dress” - a red column gown by Dior - because awards season is synced with her
menstrual cycle and plan-A was too tight.
Of her decision to turn to the
back-up Dior dress, Lawrence said: “It was loose at the front. And I didn't
have to worry about sucking anything in. The other dress was really tight, and
I'm not going to suck in my uterus. I don't have to do that."
The X-Men star
has also spoken openly about the fact she finds it ridiculous that she is often
referred to as the actress with the ‘normal body’ in Hollywood. Of her
physique, she
told Harper’s Bazaar, “I
do Pilates every day. I eat, but I work out a lot more than a normal person. I
think we've gotten so used to underweight that when you are a normal weight
it's like, 'Oh, my God, she's curvy.'”
Though looking utterly
flawless in front of London’s flashing cameras, Lawrence took a tumble,
something that has happened not once before, but three times on the red carpet.
Her most
famous fall was at the 2013 Academy Awards, where
she tripped up the stairs on her way to collect her Best Actress Oscar. She
later blamed the fall on her Dior couture dress, which had a voluminous skirt.
Appearing unscathed
by her wobble, Lawrence was joined at the London showcase by co-stars Sophie
Turner and Olivia Munn. A common theme amongst the actresses seemed to be
cut-outs, as all three greeted waiting cameras in form-fitting ensembles that
flashed more than a little flesh.
