Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone’s brother-in-law, Carlos Dibos, has launched a scathing attack on Lionel Messi, accusing the Barcelona star of ‘doing whatever he wants’ while representing the national team.
Dibos worked as a physical trainer for the Argentina national football team during 2006 and 2008 and claims that the Barcelona star calls the shots regarding squad call-ups and the coach running the show from the touchline.
Dibos is convinced that Messi’s antics have had a severe negative impact on the national side, telling Radio La Red via AS that people are ‘sick’ of the forward’s behavior.
“Messi picks managers and players and does whatever he wants with the national team. Now the truth is out and we’re sick [of his behaviour] in Argentina. We’re going to make that very clear.
“Resentment, begrudgery and selfishness mean people can have crazy opinions in this country. I can’t believe there are journalists and pundits out there who say Simeone can’t manage the national team because Messi wouldn’t want him in charge. They’re bonkers.”
With regards to his brother-in-law, Dibos added: “Luck hasn’t gotten him to his second Champions League final.
“Diego is constantly working. Nothing is left to chance. Since marrying his sister twenty years ago I’ve spent a lot of time with him. I’ve watched his training sessions and I take my hat off to him [for the work he is doing].”
